Reception (Ferries)
Book bags
Books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so please make sure your child brings their book bag on that day. Their reading books should be signed whenever you read with them and at least 3 times a week. On Mondays and Fridays, the book they bring home will be an Oxford Reading Tree stage book but on Wednesdays your child will be able to choose any book from the book corner to read. This may mean it is easier to read or more difficult to read (in which case you can read it with them).
PE kits
We will be doing PE every Friday morning. PE lessons will be outside. Reception will begin practising getting changed for PE independently. This is an important part of developing the children’s independence and preparing them for Year 1.
We will be supporting them step by step in school, but it would really help if you could practise at home too.
Please ensure your child brings their PE kit into school on Fridays. They will need suitable outdoor trainers.
Water bottles
Please send your child to school with a water bottle every day.

Phonics
Learning to read is one of the most important skills that your child will develop over the next few years. The more support and encouragement that you can offer your child, the more likely it is that he or she will make good progress. At school we are using the Oxford Reading Tree series to take your child through the early stages of learning to read. We are using the Floppy’s Phonics teaching programme, which is a step-by-step phonics reading scheme. It introduces the children to the letters and sounds (the alphabetic code) that are at the foundation of all reading and writing.
Finally, please ensure all clothing and bookbags are clearly labelled.
Thank you,
Sacha (Class Teacher), Katie (Teaching Assistant), Sarah (Teaching Assistant), Chloe (Teaching Assistant) and Kirsty (Teaching Assistant)
